Flegi – a village guesthouse in Slovenian Istria
Flegi is great in any time of the year. In summer, we swim and sunbathe without crowded beaches. In winter, we light a fire, read, play and take long walks. In spring, we look for the first wild asparagus. In Autumn, we pick rosehip. Nights, all we hear is silence, owls and nightingales. We eat homegrown vegetables, drink homemade wine and use undiluted homepressed olive oil.
Flegi is best for extended families or parties of friends.
With six to eight people we like best, we take over the house, spread our belongings in the cantina and the outdoor stone kitchen, and reign over the swimming pool. Couples or smaller parties can make new friends with other guests.
In Flegi, time takes all the time it needs. But when you want action, Portorož, Izola, Koper and Piran are only a half hour drive away.
P.S. You will not find Flegi on a map. The village is officially named – Župančiči. But its people are Flegians, of Flegi.
Enchanted with the beauty and serenity of Slovenian Istria, the owners of the Flegi mansion bought in 2006 the home of the Peroša family in Župančiči. We sought to preserve the two charming stone houses' authentic architecture while endowing them with the latest perks of building standards. Two years of thinking, planning and reconciling our aims with the strict natural park zoning regulations, resulted in rebuilding the guest house as a low energy building above the old stone cantina, and in building a copy of the original second building as a passive house. All priceless original building materials of the old stone houses were preserved and reused, the authentic local architecture and colours were lovingly observed and coupled with modern features – air ventilation with heat recuperation, heating via a joint air/water heat pump, as well as using rainwater for toilet flushing. If you live like an Istrian, no cooling is needed even in the worst summer heat. As final touches, we added a swimming pool and two stonebuilt outdoor kitchens – and opened our doors.
Welcome to Flegi!
